REPRODUCTION AND PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE OF 

LOCAL DAIRY GOAT

Originally, Etawah Crosbreed Goat was developed through upgrading program of local Kacang goat using Jamnapari bucks imported from India during the Dutch colonization period. Crossbreed Etawah Goat is a dairy goat suitable to be developed by farmer in Indonesia. Crossbreed Etawah goat is famous in Indonesia by Peranakan Etawa or PE. PE goats is well adapted in a tropical climate. Based on the 2015 animal husbandry statistics, the goat population in Indonesia is 18.88 million head, of which 60% are spread on the island of Java and each year an average increase of 2.66% is recorded. In East Java, there are two types of PE Goat. They are Kaligesing and Senduro. Their phenotype and characteristic are almost the same.The difference is the color of the fur in certain parts. There is black color in head part on Kaligesing type, while the Senduro type their entire body is white.Kaligesing type was first developed inPurworejo, Central Java in 1930’s by Dutch colonial, usually used for livestock contests by their owners. While Senduro was first developed in Lumajang East Jawa.

THE PERFORMANCE OF MADURA CATTLE

Indigenous beef cattles in Indonesia are quite diverse, one of them is Madura cattle. Madura cattle are the result of mixing Bali cattle (Bos sondaicus) and Zebu (Bos indicus).  Madura cattle are beef cattle which have good adaptability to stress in the tropical environment, poor feed conditions, and are resistant to tick infestations. Madura cattle are breed of local beef cattle formed as a result of natural conditions and environmental influences, so they have a uniform characteristic that is prominent among other local beef cattle breeds in Indonesia. Madura is known to have tropical geographical conditions and has less fertile soil. Madura cattle as germplasm of indigenus beef cattle is a national pride that needs to be maintained. I will present their characteristics includng production and reproduction performances.
